An agreement to promote Murano glass and the Regione del Veneto’s  Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark, was signed today between the Venetian Hoteliers Association (AVA) – and Consorzio Promovetro in order to preserve, protect and defend this millenary art and at the same time promote, enhance and maintain a correct commercialization in the world of this important cultural heritage.

The aim of this partnership is the dissemination of correct information about Murano glass to the hosts through the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark, established by the Veneto Region with the law n. 70 of December 23, 1994. In the years the trademark has become a well known took, created to fight the many attempts of imitation, to protect the consumer and the tradition of a whole economy belonging to the island. The trademark represent the only legally recognised guarantee of origin of the product.

In all hotels adherents to AVA, then, Vetro Artistico® Murano  multilingual folding will be distributed, and  the glass art will be promoted through the official channels of AVA (circulars, newsletters, website, etc.) and throughout events such as exhibitions, prizes and gadgets.

“With this agreement, Murano and its art enter the Venetian Hoteliers Association, which is an essential channel for “educating” the tourists towards a reliable purchase – says the President of Promovetro Luciano Gambaro – anywhere in the city there are not original products which tourists often cannot recognize.

To inform the tourist, as soon as they arrive in Venice, that these products often have nothing to do with Murano glass, for us is a great achievement.  I would like to thank particularly the President of AVA Vittorio Bonacini and Director Claudio Scarpa for having grasped the essence and the importance of this agreement that represents a strong sign to the city and to all its operators, against a savage, immoral commercialization, and toward a different Venice, which is no longer synonymous of the culture and art it used to represent That is why we hope that other agreements, with other economic and trade activities, will follow this with other realities which care about the real Venice, its tradition and its history”.

“The signing of this agreement – says the President of AVA, Vittorio Bonacini – represents the conclusion of a hard work process to protect guests in Venice by promoting quality, exclusivity and originality of Murano glass. For too long there have been some very dangerous collusion which have endangered a heritage made of history and tradition, that cannot, and must not, be sacrificed on the altar of the interests by unscrupulous people who violate every principle of legality, ethics and transparency “.
