The Italian Love knot is a master piece creation by the glass masters in Murano, Italy. Apart from the world renowned fame of Murano Glass for its beauty, elegance and charm, this particular piece will grab your attention at the first sight.
This beautiful marvel is created by the glass masters of Murano in memory of the legendary love story between Captain Malco from the court of Milan and the water nymph, Sylvia. As the famous legend goes, late in the 14th century, the mighty Count Visconti set his camp on the shore of the Mincio River. A buffoon narrated the tale of beautiful nymphs cloaked as witches, who supposedly lived in the waters of the Mincio. They came out only at night and disappeared with the first beams of sunlight.
Captain Malco, dared to face a beautiful nymph, Sylvia, and they fell madly in love. The next day, few ladies danced to entertain Count Visconti and his cousin, Isabella who was secretly in love with Captain Malco. Captain Malco spotted Sylvia amongst the dancers and as he approached her, Isabella, using her influences, denounced her as a witch and ordered her to be burnt. Captain Malco fought against his own troops and helped Sylvia flee towards the river Mincio. As she disappeared, the captain surrendered.
Isabella, seeking freedom from her guilt, helped the two escape and mysteriously disappears forever into the river Mincio. When the guards searched, all they found was the silk handkerchief with a knot signifying their eternal love. This everlasting bond of love is captured in this masterpiece created by the glass masters.
